Beverley is a stunning market town with its majestic Minster. Start your walk around Beverley in the market square, the market is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. From the market head towards The Minster which is arguably one of the best Gothic buildings in Europe. Building work on the minster started in 1220 and was finished in 1425. It was free to go into The Minster and they were kind enough to let the dog in as long as I carried him.

The Minster owes its origin and much of its importance to the bishop of York (705 to 714), Saint John of Beverly, he founded the local monastery in the early 8th century and his remains are still kept in the nave of The Minster.
After your visit to The Minster head towards Saint Mary's church which is even older than The Minster, Saint Mary's dates back to 1120. Once inside the church look up at the fantastic ceiling, it's called the ceiling of Kings painted in 1446, representing the kings of England before that time. While in Saint Mary's look out for the carving of the hare, which is believed to be the inspiration for the march hare in Alice in Wonderland.

After Saint Mary's take your time looking at the fantastic Georgian townhouses and the archway on the main street, which double-decker buses somehow used to go through.

Now for a real treat head towards The White Horse pub, also known as Nellies. The pub is still run by gas light and the decor has not changed for hundreds of years. The pub was originally a coaching inn and predates 1666. You're not allowed use your phone in the pub or take pictures, but with permission from the landlady I was allowed to take lots of pictures. The pub is known locally as Nellies because it was owned by the Collinson family and their daughter, the future landlady, was called Nellie. From the white horse there are plenty of other pubs and restaurants serving food, The White Horse is just for drinks. We had dinner at Soall Viet Kitchen, a Vietnamese restaurant, which I can highly recommend.
